3 Simple Ways to Update Your Home Without a Significant Renovation

Have you noticed home renovations are taking forever these days?  Well, you are not alone because the reality is, they are. From supply chain delays to insufficient help, contractors and trades are struggling to keep construction schedules on track across the board. Luckily, there are three things you can do to dramatically update your home without engaging in a long, drawn-out home renovation.

Tip #1: Renew Each Room with a Fresh Coat of Paint

Something as simple as a fresh coat of paint can totally transform a room or piece of furniture. A change of color is like a change of scenery, creating a new perspective and fresh energy in your home. Painting cabinets can renew a tired kitchen into something fabulous. Refinishing can be tricky, though, so don’t forget to call a pro for the job!

Tip #2: Spruce Up Each Space with New Lighting & Hardware

Switching up cabinet hardware and lighting is another trick to modernizing a space. Hardware that has been around for decades tends to date a home fast. Select fresh pulls, knobs, and door handles that reflect your personal style. Add coordinating contemporary light fixtures to the interior and exterior to complete the new look. Don’t forget to replace old, yellowish incandescent lights with bright, clear LED bulbs.

Tip #3: Adorn Each Area with Updated Window Treatments & Furniture

Finally, if your budget allows, adding new furnishings will complete the metamorphosis. Start with what is most worn out and replace tired pieces with quality items and clean lines.  Layer in a new area rug and some throw pillows, and voila— you have a new room! Once you take the plunge, I guarantee you’ll see a huge transformation. Keep in mind that custom pieces can take months once ordered, so start now to get those items underway.

Be sure to have a design plan in place before jumping in feet first, even for simple updates. It’s much easier to make changes before your project has begun than when you are halfway through. Need help coming up with ideas? Reach out to schedule a consultation today. I would love to work with you!
